In a message marking April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), stated that April 23rd is a very special day on which the Turkish nation unconditionally entrusted its sovereignty to its own will, and its children are regarded as the most precious custodians of this great legacy, adding, “This meaningful date, crowned by the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, is the strongest expression of our faith and hope for the future,” he said.

Hisarcıklıoğlu’s message reads as follows:

“As the TOBB community, we view working to ensure that our children—the guarantee of our future—live in a stronger, more prosperous, and more peaceful country as one of our most important responsibilities. As TOBB, we take pride in having established 245 educational facilities across all 81 provinces of our country. We know that educated, self-confident, and happy children are the foundation of a strong Türkiye.”

The school shootings that have occurred in recent days and deeply saddened us all have once again reminded us of an important reality that we, as a society, must address with the utmost sensitivity. Our schools are the places where our children should feel safest. I reject all forms of violence; I believe we must all take greater responsibility together to ensure our children grow up in safe, healthy, and loving environments. It is crucial that these attacks be thoroughly investigated and brought to light, and that the necessary measures be taken immediately to prevent their recurrence.

I wish for a future where our children’s faces light up with joy, their hopes flourish, and they live in peace and security.

I commemorate with gratitude and respect all our heroes, foremost among them Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who entrusted our national sovereignty to us; and I celebrate the 23rd April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day of all our children with my deepest feelings.”
