Turkey Paper and Paper Products Industry Council consulted on environmental issues

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) met via video conference with the participation of industry representatives under the chairmanship of members of the TOBB Board of Directors Engin Yeşil, Zeki Kıvanç and the Turkish Paper and Paper Products Industry Council President Erdal Sukan.​

TOBB Board Member Engin YeÅŸil stated in his opening speech that the problems of the sector were communicated to the relevant Ministries and institutions. YeÅŸil also expressed satisfaction in Councils convening more frequently during pandemic process.

TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç stated in his opening speech that while many sectors experienced pause during the pandemic, the paper sector continued to make new investments and grow. He added that quota restrictions on imports are seen as one of the biggest obstacles to the development of the sector.

In the first agenda item of the meeting, Dr. Onur Yüksel, General Manager of TOBBUYUM Mediation and Dispute Resolution Center, presented to the Council Members about the services of national and international mediation and dispute resolution center based on technology and mastery of the business world in Turkey.

In the second part of the meeting, comprehensive consultations on environmental issues were held with the participation of officials of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.

Regarding the raw material and packaging declaration system problems experienced in the paper sector, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Zero Waste and Packaging Waste Management Branch Manager V. Demirhan answered the questions of the Small Council Members.

Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Branch Directorate Environmental Expert Seyma Uçar Seçgel gave an informational presentation on Turkey's Industrial Emission Strategy Determination Project and its long-term effects on the sector within the scope of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control.

With the participation of Gürsel Erul, head of the Department of Water and Soil Management of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the sector's views on the Draft Water Pollution Control Regulation were discussed thoroughly.

Council Advisor Sedef ZaimoÄŸlu shared with the participants the amendments to the draft Regulation on the Control of Industrial Air Pollution to the sector.
