Raw leather acquisition and output processes should be monitored closely in slaughterhouses and combines

TOBB Turkey Leather and Leather Products Council, represented by the Chairmanship Council and council members, visited the Treasury Minister Mehmet Şimşek in order to voice the problems they face as a sector and present their solution suggestions.

The Council committee explained to the Minister ÅžimÅŸek that due to lack of monitoring during the production and processing of leather, leatherworking establishments have difficulties in billing of raw leather. Also stating that raw leather is classified as a bi-product of the meat sector, it was noted that the demands for billing of leather obtained from butchers, slaughterhouses or combines go unanswered.

The Council committee stated that the only viable solution to the problem is monitoring closely the acquisition of leather in slaughterhouses and combines on a weight basis instead of unit quantity. Minister Şimşek stated that the Ministry would take the necessary precautions, taking note of the Council’s suggestions.
