Durable Consumer Goods Council holds its February meeting

The February meeting of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Durable Consumer Goods Council was held via videoconference method under the chairmanship of TOBB Board Member Oğuzhan A. Sadıkoğlu and Council President Fatih Kemal Ebiçlioğu.​

TOBB Board Member Oğuzhan A. Sadıkoğlu informed that the recent raw materials and supply shortages in production have been communicated to the Ministry of Commerce and that the KVKK issue on the council agenda has been forwarded to the Ministry of Justice.

Within the scope of the meeting agenda, information about the economic outlook of the world and Turkey was first presented by Ahmet Çimoğlu, Economic Research Coordinator of Koç Holding. He said stock markets are going up in overseas equity markets and investors are buying in risky assets, which is followed in both the S&P500 and MSCI Indices. Globally, he said, increases in commodity prices have increased inflation concerns in the coming period, reaching the highest level seen in 10 years, especially with a significant acceleration in copper prices. On the production side, a strong industrial production was seen in the last quarter of 2020, the capacity utilization rate was stuck at 75% in February with a V-shaped increase, consumer confidence reached its highest level since August 2018 in February, and real sector confidence declined slightly.

In the second agenda item of the meeting, Fatih Kılıç from Arçelik informed Council Members about additional document requests in export declarations.

Eyüp Güler from Vestel made a presentation on the Proposed Law on the Retail Trade Regulation. With the draft, he indicated that electronic goods and home appliances cannot be sold in chain stores with food retail areas under 1500 m2.

As the last agenda item of the meeting, Ayşe Keskinkılıç made the summary information about TÜRKBESD Sector Report. Information was provided regarding the contents of the report launched by TÜRKBESD.
