A webinar addressing “How to Keep Up with the Green Transformation” was held online. Ercan Ata, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Furniture Products Council, Orhan Kahraman, Vice President of the Council of Forest Products, and Sedef Zaimoğlu, Advisor to the Council of Paper and Paper Products Industry, spoke at the webinar opening and discussed the issue from the perspective of the sectors.

TOBB Turkey Furniture Products Council President Ercan Ata noted in his opening speech that according to statistics of the European Federation of Furniture Manufacturers (UEA) furniture waste in the EU accounts for more than 4% of the total flow of urban solid waste (MSW). Ata pointed out that in addition to burning 80% to 90% of furniture waste, only 10% is converted and sent to regular storage, and that the fact that as many as 80% of the environmental impacts of the products are determined at the design stage has a dual role as both “affected” and “affecting.”

TOBB Turkey Forestry Products Council Vice President Orhan Kahraman stated that with strong feeling of the effects of global warming, sensitivity and awareness about protecting forests is increasing. The EU's push to achieve its goal of being carbon neutral by 2050 has led to serious opportunities in the future of wood products, with wood produced from a renewable source and a negative carbon footprint.

TOBB Turkey Paper and Paper Products Industry Councilary Advisor Sedef Zaimoğlu underlined that the upper limit has been reached in terms of savings and efficiency-enhancing investments throughout the Turkish Paper Sector, that there are not many measures that can be taken with reasonable costs due to existing technologies, and therefore it is important that the emissions reduction potential of the paper sector is low.

Horizon Consulting Co-Founder Eser Erginoğlu stated that the industrialist should be strategically ready for the green transformation process. In his presentation, he mentioned the obligations of companies exporting to the EU and the obligations of the importer company in the EU and pointed to the important role of the company's climate report card. He shared with the participants the roadmap to be followed in the process of harmonization with the EU Green Deal.

Lead Researcher Dr. Ersin Ercan from the Turkish Institute of Standards gave information about monitoring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions with his presentation.
