The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Casting Industry Council meeting was held via video conference with the participation of TOBB Vice President Salih Zeki Murzioğlu and the participation of the Council President Uğur Kocaoğlu, with the participation of Ahmet Köle, head of the Department of Permits and Altitudes of the General Directorate of Forestry, with the great interest of high-level representatives of the private sector and non-governmental organizations.

The Council met to discuss the problems of “General Evaluation of the Turkey Casting Sector,” “Licensing Problem of Casting Sand Mines,” evaluation of “Sectoral GTIP Study” carried out by the Council, “Used Mold/Model Import” and “Domestic production of Main Raw Material (PIK) Production” and to evaluate the “Casting Assembly Sector Report” studies.

Salih Zeki Murzioğlu said in his opening speech that economic tariff statistics positions (GTİP) and additional customs duty (IGV) applications do not meet the needs of the sector. Murzioğlu stated that the legislation applied for waste recovery needs to be updated. He said the casting industry should get rid of dependence on raw materials. In this context, Murzioğlu, who wants to establish an incentive strategy within the scope of Circular Economic Planning as in the U.S., emphasized that the export of metal scraps, which are strategic raw materials, should be prevented at a low price; “We support the Council work on the need to create incentive programs for the main industrial companies in the manufacturing sectors to increase the domestic casting parts usage rates, we communicate and follow the sector demands on publicly owned platforms.”

In his speech, Council President Uğur Kocaoğlu shared with council members what has been done since the last meeting on the working issues discussed by the council. He shared the information that the problems experienced due to the presence of mining licensed areas within forest land and forest permits were communicated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the problems experienced due to the absence of sectoral GTIP's and the problems related to pricing policy in the import of used casting mold/model.

Ahmet Köle, head of the Permit and Altitude Department of the General Directorate of Forestry, who was invited to discuss the Licensing Issue of Casting Sand Mines, also made assessments regarding the licensing and permit processes. Talking about the contribution of the forest sector to the national economy, Ahmet Köle said that while necessary arrangements were made to pave the way for the sector and reduce the burden of bureaucracy, the transfer of authority to the provinces was made, but this problem was felt more dominantly for economic and ecological reasons in Istanbul; noting that the sector is experiencing this licensing problem. He said that they will meet with the sector as soon as possible and do their best to solve the problem.
