Cihat Lokmanoğlu: “The next 100 years will shape the fight against climate change”

TOBB Board Member M. Cihat Lokmanoğlu participated in the “Roadmap for the Circular Economic Transformation of Turkish Industry: How Can Circular Economic Principles Be Adapted?” session during the Circular Economy Week.​

The second Circular Economy Week, organized in collaboration with the Business For Goals Platform (B4G), DCube Circular Economy Cooperative (DCube) and the Association for Business and Sustainable Development (SKD Turkey), was held online between 14-18 March 2022 and many sessions were held with the participation of various institutions and organizations.

In the session where questions were asked about the work on circular economy, the regulation and policy tools that will contribute to transformation, and the integration of the supply chain, Cihat Lokmanoğlu said that the next 100 years will be shaped by the issue of combating climate change in all areas, especially industry, trade, economy and agriculture.

Noting that the circular economy based on the principle of waste production offers many new opportunities and that there are various studies carried out in Turkey, Lokmanoğlu stated that the private sector has entered a rapid transformation process by following the trends in the world and emphasized that many companies prepare sustainability reports, risks are identified on a company basis, carbon footprint is measured.

Explaining the work carried out by TOBB, Lokmanoğlu introduced the EU Green Deal commission established within TOBB and the European Green Deal sectoral workgroup and mentioned the Waste and Recycling Industry Council, which was established with the awareness that the way to transition to a circular economy is through the evaluation of waste.

Addressing issues such as the whole supply chain will be reviewed as we move to a circular economy, companies that reduce their carbon footprint and adopt the principle of sustainability will be one step ahead, the TOBB Board Member emphasized that companies should better use their existing potential in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
