The International Contracting Assembly has taken the housing sector as the focus of its work

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) The first meeting of the International Contracting Services Council of Turkey after the election, the planning of a Workshop on “The Situation of the Housing Sector, Future Expectations, Problems Encountered and Solution Proposals” under the chairmanship of TOBB Board Member Hakan Ülken, “Domestic Contracting Sector Situation Assessment” and “Evaluation of the Effects of the Russian-Ukrainian War on Overseas Contracting Services and Potential Risks” agendas was carried out with.​

In his opening speech, Hakan Ülken stated that Turkey is a strong actor with an important role in the branding of our country in the international arena in the construction sector and contracting and to increase its share in contracting service exports with the work to be done by the International Contracting Services Council.

In his speech, Speaker Erdal Eren emphasized the importance and necessity of planning a workshop on “The Situation of the Housing Sector, Expectations for the Future, Problems Encountered and Solution Proposals”. He stated that the companies and NGOs that know the housing sector best are gathered under the roof of the Parliament and TOBB, so he believes that such a workshop will be a reference in the nocratic of seeking a solution to the housing problem with the public.

In his speech, Council Vice President Nazmi Durbakayım underlined that housing producers had to produce housing by overcoming many problems, that they had to struggle with purchasing, revenue sharing, flat provision procedures, project implementation, increasing costs and increasing housing prices, and that all legal processes related to land / project were carried out in addition to the problems of finding land and project development, and that these issues should also be put on the agenda.

- Main workshop topics determined by Council Members

The main topics of the workshop are; “Reducing Land Costs and the Role of TOKİ”, “The Effect of Construction Input Costs on the Housing Sector”, “Evaluation of Alternative Housing Finance Methods, Mainly for the Middle Income Group”, “Accelerating Urban Transformation”, “Problems Experienced Regarding Mutual Responsibility Between Principal Employer / Subcontractor”. It was stated that a study that would include the topics in question would play a key role in achieving the expected benefit.

In order to carry out the preparations for the workshop, the main points of departure of the Council were determined, a sub-working group consisting of NGOs in the Council was established and the works carried out under the chairmanship of Vice President Nazmi Durbakayım should be finalized by September and all Ministries, public institutions and organizations related to the construction sector should be invited.

After the Russian-Ukrainian War, how overseas contracting services were affected was discussed by the Council. How Turkish contracting companies will be affected at the point of reconstruction of Ukraine, the role they will assume and the potential risks that the sector will experience were discussed. Opinions were exchanged on solutions to prevent disruption in the ongoing projects in Russia.
