In his opening speech, Selçuk Öztürk mentioned that the agenda of the natural gas Council has changed rapidly due to the current economic conjuncture, domestic and foreign policy events and sectoral developments. Öztürk thanked the Speaker and Members of the Council for their selfless and efficient work within this dynamic structure.

Council Speaker Ä°brahim Akbal touched upon the effects of the developments in Ukraine and the price increases experienced as a result of the economic and political developments on the sector, especially food and energy prices. Akbal made an assessment about the developments in the European Union's (EU) natural gas markets.

YaÅŸar Arslan, Vice President of the Turkish Natural Gas Council, made an assessment regarding the natural gas consumption in the first half of the last three years. Emphasizing that natural gas consumption in housing increased by 35% in the first six months of 2022, Arslan stated that if consumption in housing continues to hold this share, it will account for half of the consumption at the end of the year. He stated that natural gas distribution networks continue to work and provide services to a large part of the population.

BOTAŞ Natural Gas Operations and Market Operations Regional Manager Murat Önde, after the evaluations regarding the consumption in the first 5 months of 2022, made a presentation about the natural gas transmission system and network development processes and evaluated the first five months.

In his presentation on the reshaping of the electricity and natural gas sectors in the EU within the framework of the Green Agreement, Erdinç Ozen, Advisor to the Natural Gas Council of Turkey, gave information about the EU's work on natural gas and electricity markets.

TOBB Energy Council Advisor Kemal Uslu gave information on the realizations in electricity markets and the data on electricity production sources and made an assessment about the place of the natural gas sector in this framework.
