Council President Ä°brahim Akbal, noting that the world is in a period of change and the sector is trying to keep up with this change, stated that the developments in Ukraine cause supply problems on an international scale. In this context stating that EU countries have resorted to new measures to overcome the natural gas interruption/shortage problems caused by Russia, Akbal emphasized that there are measures such as energy saving, reducing lighting, reducing the comfort temperature and spending the winter period in warmer countries, but the most important measures will be economic measures, including the application of ceiling prices in the sector.
Yaşar Arslan, Vice President of the Türkiye Natural Gas Council, stated that the difficulties that started in the second half of 2021 were successfully faced by the public, especially by BOTAŞ, and that the public supported the sector with an important support mechanism.
Arslan stated that, when the first six months of 2022 are examined, natural gas consumption in housing continues to increase with the effect of the increase in the prices of substitute fuels, and that the use of fuel-oil and LPG for industrial facilities is on the agenda. Talking about the projection of 2022, Arslan said that they expect natural gas consumption to increase at the end of the year, he said that the way for distribution companies to distribute gas with LNG has been opened.
BOTAŞ Natural Gas Operations and Market Operations Regional Manager Murat Önde, after the evaluations regarding the consumption in the first 8 months of 2022, made a presentation about the natural gas transmission system and network development processes and evaluated the period.
Mehmet Kürkçü, Head of the External Relations Group of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority, gave information about international natural gas markets, short-term projections and EU natural gas supply security targets and projects with his presentation.
GAZBIR- GAZMER Project and International Relations Manager Mehmet Şerif Sarıkaya made a presentation on the use of hydrogen in natural gas systems. Sarikaya gave information about the global hydrogen market and the transition strategies to hydrogen worldwide, and made evaluations about Türkiye's hydrogen efforts.
Erdinç Özen, Advisor to the Türkiye Natural Gas Council, shared the important developments in the international natural gas market and emphasized the mobility in the LNG market worldwide.
