Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing Council came together in İstanbul

Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing Council Meeting was held in İstanbul under the chairmanship of Council President Kutlu Karavelioğlu, with the participation of Mehmet Büyüksimitci, TOBB Board Member responsible for the Council.​

The meeting was attended by Dr. Can Fuat Gürlesel, President of Economy and Strategy Consultancy Services (ESDH), Mehtap Önal, Branch Manager of Machinery Exporters' Association (MAİB), Ahmet Yılmaz, MAİB Germany Consultant and Dr. Selçuk Mutlu via video conference.

In his opening speech, TOBB Board Member Mehmet Büyüksimitci gave information about the “Let's Build a House” Permanent Housing Campaign launched by TOBB. Büyüksimitci invited the Council Members to participate in the campaign and stated that the details of the campaign can be accessed from TOBB's web page.

The meeting started with Kutlu Karavelioğlu, President of the Council, making an assessment of the effects of global developments between 2020 and 2022 on the sector. In his assessment, he included the growth rate of the global economy, total goods trade in the world, average export unit prices, machinery and equipment investments, increased machinery production and the effects of machinery exports and imports on the domestic market.

MAİB Branch Manager Mehtap Önal evaluated the position of the machinery and equipment manufacturing sector in foreign trade in the first 3 months of 2023. Council Advisor Zühtü Bakır evaluated the developments in the basic indicators of the sector for the first 3 months of 2023.

ESDH President Dr. Can Fuat Gürlesel spoke about the developments in the Turkish and World Economy and touched upon the possible effects of the current situation on the machinery sector.

The evaluation of the Turkish Machinery Sector Sustainability Action Plan Report published by MAİB in order for manufacturers to have a sustainable value chain and quickly adapt to the Twin Transformation was made by Ahmet Yılmaz, MAİB Germany Consultant.

The market analysis studies on machinery and equipment rental, which is of ultimate importance for the sector, were discussed by Dr. Selçuk Mutlu.

At the end of the meeting, Zühtü Bakır, Advisor to the Council, provided information about the work of the Legislation and Rental Committees. In this context; New Machinery Safety Regulation (2006/42/EC), the approval and market surveillance of non-road mobile machinery circulating on public roads and amending Regulation (EU) 2019/1020, New Eco-design Regulation (ESPR, Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) and measures and regulations regarding the need for machinery in the construction of earthquake housing were mentioned.
