Retail Council evaluated the latest developments in the sector

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Retail Council Meeting was held by video conference method with the intense interest of senior representatives of the private sector and non-governmental organizations under the chairmanship of the Council President Alp Önder Özpamukçu.​

Ayşe Çelebi Doğan, TOBB Türkiye Sector Councils Manager, participated in the meeting and informed about the Housing Mobilization campaign initiated by TOBB, stating that the country passed a great test after the earthquake on February 6, 2023, and that the wounds were tried to be healed with the cooperation of hands. Doğan explained the details of the campaign, which started with the slogan “Let's Build a House,” and stated with satisfaction that the campaign will reach wider masses with the support and contributions of the Council Members.

Council President Alp Önder Özpamukçu stated that in order for the earthquake regions to recover, the problem of permanent housing must be solved as soon as possible and the regions must be turned into centers of attraction in order for commercial life to recover. Stating that the actions to be taken after the earthquake is a long marathon, Council President Özpamukçu stated that everyone has contributed to the realization of the product harvests in the earthquake zone and that everyone has put their hands under the stone for the supply of goods from the producers in the region.

At the meeting where the general evaluation of the sector was made, it was stated that there was a cash crunch in the market and that there was no mobility in the market at the desired level except for food during the Ramadan Feast.

In the meeting, it was also discussed that it is valuable for NGOs to come together and evaluate the work that can be done in the earthquake zone, and the importance of finding permanent solutions and institutionalizing the solutions found by always keeping in mind the earthquake zone of our country was mentioned.

It was discussed that NGOs should start vocational trainings in the earthquake region, pioneer the establishment of container cities, and continue earthquake aid through State institutions, and those who supported were thanked.

In addition, the importance of improving the high increases in common expenses and rental costs through efficiencies to be created in the sector and joint solutions to be created by sector stakeholders was emphasized. Finally, the Council President Alp Önder Özpamukçu went over the priority problems on the agenda of the Council and shared them with the sector representatives.
