Saim Özakalın, who made the opening speech of the meeting, stated that it is an indispensable element of many industrial branches that direct the country's economy, contribute to employment and ensure the continuity of key sectors such as agriculture, energy and water, and stated that awareness in the world has been increasing in recent years on the necessity of giving sufficient importance to the economic, social and environmental multifaceted benefits provided by forest products.

Underlining the need to focus on wood products in order to ensure the proper use of resources in the sector, Haluk Yıldız, Chairman of the Council, stated that they will continue to grow and invest steadily in the future as they have done in the past and that it is important to operate forests according to sustainable forest management criteria.

The meeting also emphasized that protecting and exploiting Türkiye's natural resources and managing its rich biodiversity are top priorities and therefore, intensive efforts should be made to ensure a legal and sustainable supply chain for the production of wood construction materials and wood packaging.

In the last part of the meeting, the Council Members made a general evaluation of the sector and discussed the expectations for 2024.
