Ender Yorgancılar, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), pointed to the recent disasters in his speech at the opening of the fair and said, “Scientists state that much bigger disasters may occur in the coming period with the effects of global warming and environmental pollution. Therefore, we should take the necessary precautions and be ready for any disaster that may occur. In this context, expanding the scope of compulsory earthquake insurance and transforming it into compulsory disaster insurance, i.e. ZAS, will be an accurate and important achievement.”

- ZAS alone is not enough

Stating that the transition to ZAS alone is not enough, Yorgancılar said: “As a sector, we need to provide the necessary support in the earthquake preparation process with voluntary guarantees and building completion insurance. We also need to make our industrial facilities and SMEs more resilient against earthquakes and other potential risks. The insurance sector will play the most critical role here. Insurance intermediaries play a critical role in the presentation of insurance contracts to the insured. This is because it is not possible for citizens to review and evaluate offers or policies other than standard products. The 18,635 insurance agencies organized under our Union ensure that insured persons have access to the necessary coverage under appropriate conditions. As TOBB, we work together with the President and members of SAİK to solve the problems of our agencies and to ensure the development and growth of the profession. We also provide all necessary support for agencies and their staff to specialize and provide better quality service to the insured. At this point, the “New Generation Agency Training Program” organized under the coordination of our Insurance Agents Executive Committee and the Association of Insurance, Reinsurance and Pension Companies of Türkiye is of special importance.”

TOBB Vice Chairman Ender Yorgancılar then shared his views as a panelist in the panel titled “The Importance of the Insurance Sector for Sustainable Development, Sustainable Insurance.”

TOBB Insurance Agents Executive Committee Chairman Levent Korkut and Insurance Loss Adjusters Executive Committee Chairman Ahmet Nedim Erdem also took the floor in their opening speeches and in the panel.
