10.01.2025 / Ankara

“Türkiye-Iran Cooperation Meeting in the Field of Agriculture” was held at the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB).

In his speech here, Faik Yavuz, Treasurer Member of the Board of Directors of TOBB, stated that the relations between the two countries offer important cooperation opportunities and said, “We will pay special attention to the field of agriculture in the bilateral room to be established between TOBB and Iran Chamber in the coming period. The agricultural sector is among the main sectors with potential for cooperation between our countries.”

Yavuz said the following: “As Iranian President Mr. Pezeshkian said recently, Türkiye and Iran are friends and brothers. The understanding achieved at the level of leaders in our relations creates important cooperation opportunities for the business world. Our bilateral economic and trade relations have been negatively affected by sanctions and the pandemic. Our leaders have set a trade volume target of $30 billion. We believe that the Preferential Trade Agreement between our countries is very important in reaching this target. Expanding the scope of the agreement will further increase our trade. Esendere and Kapıköy border gates between our country and Iran have been modernized by our Union. The modernization of the Gürbulak border gate continues. Iran is an important country in terms of road transportation. In addition to our many bilateral transportation to Iran, a significant part of our transportation to Central Asia is carried out by transiting Iran.”

- Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumaklı

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that efforts are underway to make border trade with Iran more active and said, “I believe that there is an important area of cooperation in our country in many areas such as not only product trade, but also agricultural equipment, their installation, modernization, greenhouse construction.”

In his speech here, Minister Yumaklı stated that the mutual high-level visits with Iran in recent years have carried the relations between the two neighboring and friendly countries to a higher level in every respect.

Pointing out that the relations, which have become multidimensional and comprehensive, continue to strengthen in the economic and commercial fields, Yumaklı said, “As stated by our Presidents, as Türkiye, we attach great importance to diversifying the areas of cooperation in order to reach the target of 30 billion dollars in bilateral trade volume with Iran.”

Yumaklı stated that in this context, they continue to work rapidly in the field of agriculture, which has a very important share in trade, and reminded that they held the first business forum in the field of agriculture with this country in 2016.
