The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Türkiye Forest Products Council meeting was held in Istanbul with the participation of TOBB Board Member Saim Özakalın, who is responsible for the Council, and under the chairmanship of Council Chairman Haluk Yıldız.

After the opening speeches of TOBB Board Member Saim Özakalın and Council Chairman Haluk Yıldız, the agenda items were discussed.

At the meeting, the effects of the customs duties imposed by the US on China and Vietnam on Türkiye were evaluated. Council members stated that this development offers a potential export opportunity for Türkiye, but that this opportunity carries risks due to current production costs, labor and infrastructure problems. Stating that the furniture and forestry products sectors should act in coordination, it was suggested to organize a joint meeting under the roof of TOBB.

Another agenda item of the meeting was the new obligations that will come into force within the scope of the European Union's regulation on combating deforestation (EUDR). Reşat Benli, Head of the Department of Management and Marketing of the General Directorate of Forestry, shared technical studies on the digital traceability system. He stated that the infrastructure based on barcode and coordinate integration, especially in sterile forest products, has been completed to a great extent and pilot applications are ongoing to expand the system throughout Türkiye.
