The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Automotive Trade Council convened under the chairmanship of Council President Dr. Hayri Erce, with the participation of TOBB Executive Board Vice Chairman Şekib Avdagiç (responsible for the Council), TOBB Executive Board Member Tuncay Yıldırım, Ministry of Trade General Director of Domestic Trade Adem Başar, Deputy General Director Soner Kaya, and Department Head Özgür Karacaoğlu.

During the sectoral assessment conducted in the first part of the meeting, the current state of the automotive market, structural challenges faced, and future expectations were discussed.

One of the key items on the agenda was the Regulation on the Rental of Motor Vehicles. Current regulations and issues encountered in practice were evaluated in detail. During the meeting, a request was also raised to apply a discount on the vehicle inquiry service fee charged by the Insurance Information Center to automotive businesses holding a license. Industry representatives stated that reducing these costs would alleviate the burden on businesses. Regulations regarding the expert appraisal process were also among the meeting’s key topics. In this context, proposals were shared aimed at establishing a more transparent and reliable expert appraisal system.

The meeting also addressed regulations on domestically produced goods. Current practices supporting domestic production and areas requiring improvement were discussed. While issues regarding delays in initial registration processes were raised, representatives the Ministry of Interior and the Notaries Union provided assessments on accelerating these procedures. The need to clarify the current legislation regarding the definition of “operator status” was also raised during the meeting. It was noted that uncertainties in this area lead to variations in implementation across the sector.

The meeting concluded after the views and recommendations of the participants were heard.
