2nd International Geographical Indications Summit in Antalya

The 2nd International Geographical Indications Summit was held in Antalya in collaboration with Akdeniz University, the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and YÜciTA. The summit brought together key representatives from Türkiye and international stakeholders in the field of geographical indications.​

Opening remarks were delivered by Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin, Ali Çandır, Member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) and President of the Antalya Commodity Exchange, Yusuf Hacısüleyman, President of the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zeki Durak, President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

During the summit, topics such as the protection and sustainability of geographical indications, as well as efforts to strengthen their position in international markets, were discussed; successful initiatives carried out by chambers of commerce and commodity exchanges across Türkiye were also comprehensively evaluated.

In this context, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) presented a session titled “The Role of Chambers of Commerce and Commodity Exchanges as Türkiye’s Leading Geographical Indications Institutions” to the participants. The projects undertaken by chambers of commerce and commodity exchanges in the field of geographical indications, best practice examples, and efforts related to international registration processes were shared in detail. During the presentation, the strategic importance of geographical indications in terms of local development, rural employment, and branding was once again emphasized.
