The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey Commodity Exchanges Council Meeting was hosted by TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu and attended by the Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Deputy Minister Kutbettin Arzu, high level Ministry bureaucrats and council members on the 19th of December, 2013 at the TOBB Twin Towers.​

Turkey Commodity Exchanges Council meeting was the scene of discussion on the state of the Turkish economy with comparison being made between the domestic and global agriculture sectors. The average growth rate for European Union countries during the last 10 years was found to be 0.2 while Turkey achieved 2.2 average growth. For the first time since 1965, the agriculture sector achieved growth 9 years out of eleven. The steps necessary for the faster and healthier growth of the sector were discussed. It was decided that the points below would be announced to the public as the views of the Council.

 

1-     Our country does not produce some goods enough to meet domestic demand despite having the ability to do so.

 

2-     The satellite tracking system of the Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Ministry presents great opportunity.

 

3-     It is paramount that the trade of agricultural goods be conducted through Commodity Exchanges.

 

4-     Product Verification and Tracking System is vital in ensuring food safety and off the record activity.

 

5-     Commodity Exchanges are enacting measures in order to contribute more to the agriculture sector.

 

6-     Licensed warehousing and Specialized Commodity Exchange are vital for the future of the country’s agriculture sector and the development of agriculture based industry.

 

7-     Our country has great potential in terms of the animal husbandry sector.

 

8-     There is need for the conservation, breeding of livestock; market monitoring and the modernization of establishments.

 

9-     It is important to ensure proper hygienic conditions for the healthy consumption of meat in Turkey.

 

10-  It is evident that great progress has been made in regards to combating animal diseases.

 

11-  It is important to ensure the rapid modernization of small scale animal husbandry establishments.
