Discussed during the meeting were glass imports, protection for the industry following the economic difficulties in the Middle East and high-standard glass usage.
It was stated that the most significant problem the sector faces is training qualified personnel. Yorgancılar urged companies to adopt a system similar to Germany wherein sector personnel are continually recruited from vocational schools.
Also pointing out that the Specialized Vocational Training Centers (UMEM) Project has been created to offset companies’ employment costs and that many companies complaining about the costs of employment aren’t aware of it.
Recycling in the glass sector was also discussed.
Lastly, council members reviewed the 5 sector problems and solution proposals touched on at the 8th Turkey Economy Summit. It was also decided that work to prepare the issues to be presented to at the next Summit should begin.
