The İ;stanbul Arbitration Center has emerged as a rapid judicial alternative to long litigation marathons that have been in government courts for years as a center where commercial disputes are resolved by arbitrators rather than courts. The İstanbul Arbitration Center held a conference in Ankara, aiming to raise awareness and inform executives and lawyers of these institutions on arbitration procedures. 

TOBB Vice President Ender Yorgancılar, in his opening keynote, said that the İstanbul Arbitration Center is a very young institution and pointed out that, “[It] has shown rapid growth under Ziya Akıncı’s leadership, one of the most respected names in his field. It has become both an efficient and reliable service for our business community with an average cost of half, or even a quarter, of costs compared to regular court proceedings.”

During his speech, Zühtü Arslan, Chairman of the Constitutional Court, stated that the number of individual applicants is around 80,000 and that, “Considering that the number of cases from 47 countries brought before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is 75,200, it is a clear indication of the workload facing us. In other words, the number of cases brought to the Constitutional Court is greater than the total number of cases from 47 countries in brought before the ECHR. Approximately 60,000 of the cases have been brought forth after July 15^th.”

İSTAC Chairman Dr. Ziya Akıncı stated that the organization has received much attention from both the public and private sectors and that many important institutions for the economy of the country, including TOBB, are represented at the arbitration center.
