The TOBB Turkey Small and Medium Scale Construction Council meeting held at the TOBB Union Center in Ankara with Council President Bekir Adıyaman presiding was attended by TOBB Board Member Ender Yorgancılar, Environment and Urbanism Ministry Professional Services Deputy General Director Bülent Ercan, Turkey Construction Services President Erdal Eren and council members.

- Contractors demand standards in the profession

Stating that legislations put in place in order to keep the construction profession in check and document workers must be monitored, TOBB Board Member Ender Yorgancılar, said that unless there were inspections the laws and legislations implemented would have no meaning.

- “The construction profession is seen as abandoned”

Turkey Construction Services Council President Erdal Eren stated that the construction sector is seen as abandoned and said that it was time to address the sector’s many problems at the roots and that, regarding the implementation of the insurance model to the construction sector, the councils should convene in order to conduct a thorough study of the issues.

- The construction inspection system should be developed

Speaking at the meeting, Construction Inspection Institutions Union President Nevzat Demirsoy stated that the insurance model may be compatible with the structure and modus operandi of construction inspection companies and should be investigated further while providing information regarding the precautions that must be taken in regards to construction inspections.

- New registry system

The Environment and Urbanism Ministry Profession Services Deputy General Director Bülent Ercan stated that in the new system contractors would be registered online. Also, as of 01.01.2012, contractors (without distinction between registered – unregistered constructions) will be required to attain an authorization document from the ministry.

- The fire legislation should be revised and passed as soon as possible

The Association of Natural Isolation Materials Producers President Süleyman Temizci stated that natural isolation materials were not flammable and were produced solely from natural resource emissions in Turkey. Reminding that among the 2023 goals of the government, one of them is to lower the current deficit, Temizci said that the preference of natural isolation materials would help lower the current deficit.
