The meeting focused on the prevention of occupational accidents in the construction sector, especially those caused by falling from high altitudes, and the losses associated with these accidents. In order to prevent accidents and losses, use and dismantling of work equipment in accordance with the standards for equipment widely used in the sector and discussions on increasing the effectiveness of existing projects.
At the opening of the meeting, TOBB Deputy Secretary-General Cengiz Delibaş drew attention to the fact that accidents at work and occupational diseases are not just one of the major problem areas of working life in Turkey but are observed on a global scale. In this regard, Delibaş said that in recent years, important developments have been recorded as a result of arrangements made with the support of the social partners and the activities carried out by the Ministry. “We have entered a new turn as both legislation and understanding change. But I must express clearly that there is a lot more to do. We, as employers, want job vacancies and occupational diseases to go down to the lowest possible level. We do not want a single employee to be injured in the production process.”
