Cengiz Günay: "Customs tariffs on agricultural products should be reset"

Turkey - Macedonia Business Lunchon, hosted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Board Member Cengiz Günay, was held in Istanbul with the participation of Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov and Macedonian Economic Chamber President Branko Azeski.​

TOBB Board Member Cengiz Günay said, “Many Turkish entrepreneurs are conducting preliminary research and feasibility studies for investments in different sectors such as energy production and distribution, agriculture, animal husbandry, hospitality, hospitals in Macedonia. Looking at the potential of both countries, there is much work to do.”

Günay conveyed expectations, in addition to the existing free trade agreement between Macedonia and Turkey, for a new arrangement removing customs duties or setting concessional rates in agricultural products.

Cengiz Günay stated that Macedonia is located in Southeastern Europe and presents an access point to a 650 million population market, “Turkey’s capital investment in different sectors of the country is approximately 1.2 billion EUR by about 100 business people.”

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov stated that Turkey's economic relations with Macedonia improve from year to year, “Our goal is to reach at least 1bn USD in trade figures.”
