In his speech at the opening of the dinner, TOBB Board Member Ömer Zeydan wished that the newly opened State Committee on Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic of Bashkortostan would be good for the relations of the two countries and that the Office of the Turkish Representative office of the newly opened Republic of Bashkortostan would be good for the relations of the two countries. He congratulated me on his anniversary.
Noting that the positive course of Turkish-Russian relations has continued to increase recently, Ömer Zeydan said, “Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and The President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, meet frequently and develop relations. Our business people have been active in the Russian Federation for a long time. As a result, our trade volume with Russia reached $26 billion in 2018. In tourism, Turkey was the country most preferred by Russians in 2018. The expansion of cooperation between Turkey and Russia will also contribute greatly to the development of our relations with the Republic of Bashkortostan.”
Stating that Bashkortostan is one of the largest republics of the Russian Federation in terms of population and economic potential, Zeydan said, “Bashkortostan also has the most important mineral resources in Russia. Bashkortostan, where more than 3,000 mines are owned, is also very rich in its crude oil reserves. We know that beekeeping and agriculture are also very advanced. Like other Republics in the Russian Federation, we wish to develop trade, economic and cultural relations between Turkey and the Republic of Bashkortostan.”
Ömer Zeydan, who reminded that in 2025, the investment level of $10.5 billion is envisaged to be reached in accordance with the 2019-2024 Industrial Development and Competition Development Program adopted by the Government of Bashkortostan, said, “We support this visionary program and we wish to have Turkish companies in this program. Our bilateral trade volume with Bashkortostan is over $200 million. However, our exports have a small figure of 5.5 million dollars. We want to increase the volume of mutual trade and increase our exports to Bashkortostan. In this way, we can contribute more to the bilateral trade volume targeted by Our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and The President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, at a target of $100 billion.”
Zeydan said that 45 Turkish companies operate in various fields in Bashkortostan, with the amount of Turkish-owned investments around $600m.
Zeydan emphasized that Turkish construction companies have carried out important projects in Bashkortostan in the past and expressed hope that Turkish companies will be considered as a priority in similar projects.
Zeydan stated that it would be useful to establish contacts between the chambers of industry and commerce in order to increase the trade of the two countries, “In particular, we are pleased with the participation of commercial delegations from Bashkortostan at the annual Izmir International Fair. With Bashkortostan, I think they have opportunities in many fields including industry, tourism, energy and iron and steel, petro-chemical. I believe that the newly opened representation will also speed up this process of cooperation. At TOBB, we would like to organize activities to transfer these opportunities to our business people in contact with the representation and chamber of commerce and industry.”

Bashkortostan Deputy Prime Minister Ilsat Tacitdinov also said they want to improve relations between Turkey and Bashkortostan, adding that co-operation in agriculture and energy is present.
