TOBB/DEİK President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu in Mexico City for the Turkish-Mexican Business Council meeting, met with the Mexican businessman Carlos Slim, the wealthiest person in the world.

After the meeting, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that Carlos Slim is very interested in Turkey and is researching investment opportunities.

With a personal wealth of approximately 70 billion Dollars, Carlos Slim is especially interested in the field of telecommunications in Turkey, stated Hisarcıklıoğlu and said that the Mexican businessman is also considering conducting business in other fields as well.

Carlos Slim has investments in 19 countries’ telecommunication sectors. Slim holds the majority of the telecommunication in Mexico as well as investing in banking, informatics and retail.

Hisarcıklıoğlu invited Carlos Slim to Turkey and it is likely that he will visit Turkey in the coming summer months.

Stating that Carlos Slim would meet with the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the Mexican businessman views Turkey as the shining star of the world. Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that Carlos Slim posits that unless Turkey and Mexico disturb their own order in the coming 10 years, they will both be categorized as developed countries rather than developing ones.

Relating his personal impressions regarding Carlos Slim, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that Slim visited Turkey for the first time in 1968 for his honeymoon and was in Turkey last year as well. Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that Slim is a very modest person and that he has also introduced his son to him during their meetings, who has taken over business from his father.
