The President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Allah has graced us with a wonderful land, we must appreciate it.”

Attending the Çorlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (Çorlu TSO) “Contributors to the Economy with Taxes and Exports” award ceremony, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the recently increasing terror attacks aim to break Turkey apart but the Turkish nation knows to embrace each other in dark days.

Stating that agriculture will become an important factor in the coming years, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “The world’s population increases by 74 million each year. This means the equivalent of Turkey each year. Especially in Asia, 1.5 billion people have moved up to the middle class. A migration from the rural areas to the city has taken place. These people have starting participating in consumption. As a result, of the 10 goods which increased the most in price in just the last year, 4 of them are agricultural or livestock products. Farming and livestock are not just for subsistence any more, these are also significant avenues of commerce.

Allah has graced us with a great land, we should appreciate it. The Netherlands is the size of Konya. The agricultural and livestock exports of the country are 63 billion Dollars. Turkey’s agricultural exports last year added up to 13 billion Dollars. We can’t even properly utilize Konya yet. If we were to farm Konya, we would reach 63 billion Dollars. Don’t fret that we do not have natural gas and petroleum. Allah has graced us with a great land, we should appreciate it.”

- Private sector’s contribution to the economy

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the Turkish private sector achieved an extraordinary success in 2011 and that the private sector’s contribution to Turkey’s 8.5% growth in 2011 is quite significant.

Stating that Turkey has become one of the three fastest growing countries in the world, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We broke our record with 8.5% growth in 2011. We became one of the three fastest growing countries in the world. Last year, we broke another record. We provided employment to 1.3 million people. 1.1 million of those were insurance registered. These are both historical records. These were the result of being given free reign by the public administration and being supported by the political entity.”

After the speeches, Hisarcıklıoğlu presented the high tax paying industrialists their awards.
