Publishing a message regarding the September 19th Veterans’ Day, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that our history is filled with stories of valor, “The fact that we can breathe as free people today is owed to our heroic martyrs and veterans. The sagas they have generated are the honor and pride of our country.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu said in his message:
“The love of country and nation holds great importance in our culture. Our national trait and identity are reflected in these, an unshakable meaning for us all. The best example of this is seen in our Independence War, our people put forth the true meaning of freedom and homeland lead by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with the war cry, ‘Freedom or death!’
The valiant Turkish Army, braving death for the homeland, has since taken on duties throughout the world to preserve world peace.
The 19th of September is the day Atatürk was given the rank of Marshal and the title of veteran in 1921, celebrated each year afterwards as the Veterans’ Day.
Giving their brothers in arms, our veterans, the esteem they deserve is something we are honor bound to do in order to lay the souls of our martyrs to rest.
That is only as befits our nation.
It is with these thoughts and feelings that I, on behalf of the Turkish business world, celebrate the September 10th Vetereans’ Day of all our veterans and call to mind all that they have sacrificed for the homeland, never to be forgotten.”
