Emphasizing that one of the most problematic issues in trade is dishonored cheques, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “You all complain about dishonored cheques. None of us wanted the removal of prison sentences for crimes involving cheques but the conditions necessitated its implementation. Cheque installments are only found in Turkey.” Reporting that prison capacity is well below the number of files in the legislative process in regards to cheque issues, Hisarcıklıoğlu touched on the matter of QR coded cheques.
“We have conducted a meeting on this matter with Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan and the Union of Banks Chairman, agreeing on many issues. There will be two types of cheques in circulation. One will be the regular cheque while the other will be a QR coded cheque. QR coded cheques will allow you to view the transaction history of the person or establishment issuing the cheque, enabling you to conduct safer commerce. You can choose which cheque you want to use.”
Also reminding that due insurance has been implemented, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Due insurance insures all of your income form transactions which you insure. You insure 99.5% of your dues with only 0.5%.”
- Domestic product certification
Hisarcıklıoğlu encouraged domestic investors to take part in public tenders and said, “The President of the Republic of Turkey, during his term as Prime Minister, sent out three memos to call for a 15% price advantage for domestic goods. Afterwards, in February, this was passed as law. This is imperative for the development of industry. Please make use of this opportunity. You should be looking to see what you can provide the public administration.”
