Energy is at the heart of both daily life and commerce

Speaking at the B20 Energy Forum, B20 Turkey Chair and TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that energy is at the heart of both daily life and commerce; that problems will not be solved overnight – however, results will be more easily attained by working together.​

Held in Turkey for the first time, the B20 Energy Forum organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the International Chamber of Commerce was kicked off at the Swissotel.

In his opening speech of the forum, moderated B20 Turkey Sherpa Sarp Kalkan, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that preparations for the notice to be presented to G20 would take place during the forum.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that IEA has been very helpful in the content preparation phase, that Turkey has been focused on investment, implementation and inclusivity during its term as chair and B20 is following their lead.

Stating that they want to address the real issues in the global economy, Hisarcıklıoğlu reported that they are including non-G20 countries into the process as well as small and large business alike.

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “I believe that this subject is the most important issue.” No matter where you live, energy is at the heart of both daily life and commerce. We must direct governments to put the energy agenda into effect. We must be a single voice. B20 can make these suggestions as a single body. B20 can draw the attention of G20 countries. B20 suggestions can be easily put into effect.”

- Energy is a complicated issue

Stating that energy is a complicated issue, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that they must mobilize; stressing the importance of participation and that feedback from the attendees will make an effective report to the leaders of the G20.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated the importance of such a platform for the dissemination of information and said, “We hope that B20 Turkey and this forum will bring about new opportunities. I know that the energy issue will not be solved overnight, but working together, we can make progress.”

B20 Turkey Sherpa Hasan Kalkan stated that the 6 page draft energy report would be finalized with the feedback from the attendees.

Kalkan reported that increasing long term investments, development of the global energy management system, energy efficiency, investment into sustainable energy technologies and facilitation of access to energy.

At the end of the Forum attended by representatives of such organizations as IEA,Siemens Turkey, Zorlu Energy, Gulf Investment Bank, General Electric, Pan American Energy, Novozymes, Natpet and SOCAR, the B20 Energy Report will be prepared.
