​Former British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw visited TOBB

The former British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, former Foreign Affairs Minister Yaşar Yakış, Turkish-British Business Council Sir Julian Horn-Smith and former Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Uğur Ziyal visited TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu in order to discuss methods to further commercial and economic relations United Kingdom and Turkey.



During the meeting which took place at the TOBB Union Center, the details of the “Tatlidil Forum” planned to be held in Edinburgh in November were discussed. TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that during the forum would reflect positively on the commercial and cultural relations of both countries. It was decided that a preparation committee would be established in anticipation for the Forum.

The former Foreign Affairs Minister Yaşar Yakış, reminding that the third Turkish-British Tatlidil Forum would be held this year, emphasized that it was very pleasing to have TOBB participate in such an event. TEPAV Director Güven Sak stated that prominent figures from both countries would be taking part in the forum which presents great opportunities.

Turkish-British Business Council President Horn-Smith drew attention to the fact that a similar forum has been held with Germany since the end of WWII and that, as a result, German-British trade and cultural relations have steady increased.

During the meeting, the developments in Syria were also discussed.
