TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that while preparing the Turkey 100 list, the turnover growth rate of the applicant companies between the last 2 years, i.e. 2016-2018, was taken into account.
Hisarcıklıoğlu noted that the average growth of Turkey's 100 fastest growing companies during this period was 511%, “That's a stunning number. They performed 12 times more than the national income growth in Turkey. In the same period, they increased their production per employee, i.e. their productivity, by an average of 221%. In 2018, each company sold an average of TL 79 million. They also employed an average of 111 people each. In the period 2016-2018, the employment of 100 companies in Turkey increased by 86%. 63% of Turkey's 100 companies export. They export to 67 different countries. I am proud of our companies which have achieved such great successes and are eligible to enter Turkey 100, and I congratulate them all from the bottom of my heart.”
- Innovative and sustainable companies
Emphasizing that the companies here are both young, innovative and sustainable companies, TOBB President said that the average age of Turkey 100 companies is about 13 years. Pointing out that 24 of the companies that made the Turkey 100 list in 2020 were on the Turkey 100 list last year, Hisarcıklıoğlu said: “Turkey 100 companies do the work that everyone knows with a very different understanding. They use digital technology very well. They do not consider the resources allocated to the training of employees as expenses, they attach great importance to this. They work with a high environmental awareness with the understanding of “zero waste”. There are two other very important points here. The regional distribution of the Turkey 100 list is also quite remarkable. There are companies from 25 cities outside of 3 major cities on the list. The rise of Anatolia is also clearly seen here. There is also an interesting distribution in terms of sectors. In the list from IT to telecom; from construction to logistics; from food to textiles; from plastics to machinery, there are companies from many different sectors.
This diversity is actually the best proof that there are opportunities in every sector in our country and that success can be achieved in every sector with the right business model. You will be able to access the booklet with analysis of Turkey 100 companies on our website at the end of the ceremony.”
- What is the importance of Turkey 100?
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that they care very much about Turkey 100 for 3 reasons:
“The first thing is this: As you know, in our culture, there is a good saying: 'Ingenuity is subject to compliments.' At such a time, we would like to appreciate and thank the companies that have achieved great success, the 100 fastest growing companies in Turkey. Second: We want these well-run, future-bright companies to be more open, to grow more. For this reason, we introduce the 100 fastest growing companies in Turkey to everyone. We make it easier for them to reach the investor and the customer. We want them to be active not only at home, but also abroad, to export. That's what we're supporting. The third reason we care about this work is that entrepreneurship is the key to enriching and developing in this day and age. We need more entrepreneurs, too. You know, entrepreneurship is a business of enthusiasm. With the Turkey 100 competition, we want to increase the number of our entrepreneurial role models. We want every company here to set an example for new entrepreneurs. We want all our young people, our women, to hear these success stories. Let them know that they too are more eager to become entrepreneurs. I would also like to address our companies that have applied to the Turkey 100 program but did not make the top 100: You grew by an average of 98% in the period 2016-2018. I would also like to congratulate these companies on their success. Don't worry I didn't make the list; we'll be announcing next year's show soon. Be sure to apply there.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu, who noted that we should never be pessimistic during this difficult pandemic period, said, “We must never give up in difficult circumstances. Because the entrepreneur is not pessimistic, they are always full of hope and excitement. As the Turkish private sector, we say that if we could do it yesterday, we can do it today. We will ensure that Turkey is among the largest economies in the world and becomes a leading country by working together.”
- Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan
Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan said they are closely following the completion of the process between the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom, adding: “We hope to share with the public the agreement we will sign with the United Kingdom as soon as possible.”
TOBB Turkey 100 Award Ceremony, organized with the contributions of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), TEPAV and TOBB ETU, was held in a virtual environment with the participation of Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan and TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.
Minister Pekcan, speaking at the opening of the award ceremony, said that she found this event, which rewards companies which attract attention with their growth performance, very valuable in that it contributes to making companies more visible in the national and international stage.
Noting that Turkey is a young and dynamic country, Pekcan said that they continue to work with the awareness of producing more added value and exporting more within the framework of rapid growth, development and the goals of being among the countries in the world's top income group.
Pekcan noted the impact of trade wars and the Covid-19 pandemic on world economies in recent years, adding that the outbreak has created a shock in the global economy, both in supply and demand. Pekcan stressed that the most serious global economic contraction since World War II has occurred and its impact is ongoing.
“We may see a new approach to Transatlantic cooperation in particular,” Pekcan said, noting that a change in governance in the United States could bring about a change in US policy preferences for global trade.
