Investment opportunities in Uzbekistan discussed in Tashkent

The meeting with the special agenda “Uzbekistan investment opportunities” organized by the Union of Turkic Chambers of Commerce and Industry and chaired by the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Hisarcıklıoğlu then visited TOBB ETÜ Tashkent and chatted with the students.​

Minister of Youth and Sports of Uzbekistan Atham Ikramov, Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Ömer Kocaman, Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Ömer Kocaman and President of the Turkish Investment Fund Baghdad Amreyev were also present at the meeting on “Business and investment opportunities in Uzbekistan” attended by senior executives of the chambers of commerce and industry of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, members of the Organization of Turkic States (CIS), and observer countries Turkmenistan, Hungary and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

 

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Ikramov noted that Uzbekistan is actively involved in the activities of the CIS and its affiliated organizations, noting that this meeting is an indicator of this.

Ikramov stated that important decisions have recently been taken to encourage foreign investors to do business and invest in his country, emphasizing that these decisions grant certain privileges to foreign investors.

 

TOBB Vice President Ali Kopuz noted that Uzbekistan, the ancestral homeland of Uzbekistan, has become attractive for investors with the important reforms realized recently and said, “Uzbekistan has become the “shining star” of the region today.” Reminding that one of the important issues in trade is land customs gates, he emphasized that as TOBB, they have great experience and success in renovating and operating them.

 

Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Kocaman noted that the trade of the member countries of the organization with the countries of the world has exceeded 700 billion dollars in the recent period, while the mutual trade between the member countries is still at the level of 30 billion dollars, and stated that this figure does not reflect the real potential of the organization.

 

The meeting also discussed business and investment opportunities in Uzbekistan, as well as issues related to the further development of trade and economic relations between the member countries.
