“The tax debts of our businesses in 4 provinces and 2 districts, which are still in a state of force majeure, should be canceled”

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, in a post on his social media account, asked for the cancellation of the tax debts of businesses in 4 provinces and 2 districts, which still cannot heal their wounds after the February 6 earthquakes and whose state of force majeure continues.

TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu made the following statements in his statement: “The tax debts of our businesses in 4 provinces and 2 districts, which still cannot heal their wounds after the February 6 earthquakes and the state of force majeure continues, should be canceled as in the 1999 earthquakes.

Although 22 months have passed since the earthquake, expecting our businesses that cannot recover their businesses and return to normal trade to pay their tax debts means a new devastation. Insisting on an uncollectible receivable does not help our public finances.

We have repeatedly raised this issue, and in the last week alone, we have conveyed it directly to the Vice President of the Republic, Mr. Cevdet Yılmaz, and the Presidential Strategy and Budget Director, Mr. İbrahim Şenel.

It was also one of our main agenda items at the Gaziantep Chamber / Commodity Exchange Joint Assembly Consultation meeting we held last week.

We believe that our public administration will take the necessary steps in this regard.”
