The Ambassador of Portugal to Turkey, H.E. Luisa Bastos, who started her mission in Turkey in October 2010 paid a courtesy visit to the President of TOBB, Mr. M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.​

The Ambassador who was visiting the President of TOBB for the first time, discussed about the Portugal economy and mutual cooperation. The Ambassador stated that the economy of Portugal was going through a rough time; however the problems could be solved soon by working on the banking and financial sectors. She underlined the fact that if compared with the political relationship between Portugal and Turkey, the level of trade between the two respective countries isn’t in the desired level.
Hisarcıklıoğlu expressed that there was no problem regarding the political relationship between Portugal and Turkey. He also expressed that Turkey was thankful for the strong support received from Portugal during the European Union candidacy. During the meeting Hisarcıklıoğlu gave information about TOBB, TOBB’s affiliates and Turkish private sector. He also expressed that private sector has played an important role in overcoming the crisis and that they could share their experienced regarding converting the lessons learned from the crisis into opportunities. Hisarcıklıoğlu said that a Cooperation Agreement could be signed with an appropriate counterpart from Portugal.
