With the leadership of TOBB President Mr. M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoglu, Turkey – EU Joint Consultative Committee meets at Turkish Cypriot and expressed that “Cyprus is utmost valuable for us.”
After the meeting with Civil Society Organization of Turkish Cypriots, Hisarcıklıoglu declared that “We decided to institutionalize the cooperation with Turkish Cypriot civil society by establishing a Turkey – Turkish Cypriot Joint Consultative Committee.”
Turkish side of the Turkey – EU Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) held one of its regular meetings in Turkish Cypriot. Presidents and representatives of TOBB, TURK-IS, TESK, TISK, HAK-IS and Turkey KAMUSEN was included within the group.
President Hisarcıklıoglu pointed that the delegation is representing almost all Turkey with representation of employee, employer, trader, farmer and civil servant unions of Turkey.
Hisarcıklıoglu explained the reason for the Committees visit to Turkish Cypriot as, “ We wish to understand the current inconvenience taking place on the island and discuss with people who are within this process.” Hisarcıklıoglu received opinions of new ambassador of Turkey, President and Prime Minister of Turkish Cypriot and four political party leaders as well as civil society organizations of Turkish Cypriot during the visit.
Hisarcıklıoglu stated that, “ Joint Consultative Committee is established on 1995. Until this time the committee supported us in Turkey, as employee, employer and other civil society groups to work together on a common ambition which is Turkey’s membership to EU. Even we have conflict of interest in our own working areas, now we know how to solve problems together by discussion. We have a strong dialogue mechanism which makes it possible for all of us to understand each other’s sensitiveness’s. Working together is one of the most important reasons for us to overcome the economic crisis of 2011.”
Hisarcıklıoglu “After we shared our own experience with our Turkish Cypriot colleagues, we decided to institutionalize the cooperation between Turkish Cypriot civil society and Turkey by establishing a Turkey – Turkish Cypriot Joint Consultative Committee. Meetings of the Committee will be held once in three months. ”
