“Elections are celebrations of democracy. The June 12, 2011 elections have been conducted without problems as a celebration of Turkish democracy. Everywhere in the country, our people have gone to ballot boxes and have voted.

Will of the people has manifested and a new assembly, critical in the countries future, has been formed. The Justice and Development Party (AKP) has achieved great success by gaining the favor of the people three times in a row. I congratulate all parties formed in the new Nation Assembly and wish them success in their future endeavors.

In the period ahead of us our new assembly must shoulder historic duties. The fulfillment of our nation’s demand for a new constitution is chief among these duties. It is of the utmost importance that all of our political parties be open to negotiations, that a constitution accepted by all civil society organizations be implemented. Turkey will grow and develop according to how well our nation and national assembly embrace each other in regards to these shared goals.

As well as the new constitutional period, a busy agenda of economy and foreign politics awaits Turkey. It is paramount for our country to be one of the ten largest economies in the world by 2023. We must enact the necessary economic reforms to reach this goal.

It is important that economy be the priority of our agenda.

In an environment of serious political and economic upheaval in Europe and Middle East, by strengthening its economic status Turkey will be an important stability factor in the region.

Our nation’s conscientious democracy belief has, once again, been ratified by the June 12th elections by our glorious nation. I congratulate all the representatives who have attained the honor of serving under the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and wish them success in the 24th governmental term.”
