Turkey Energy Council convened

The meeting of the Turkish Energy Council was held under the chairmanship of Council President İhsan Akyol with the participation of Zeki Kıvanc, member of the TOBB Board of Directors responsible for the Council. TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç relayed TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu’s greetings, stating that close monitoring of the problems of the sector was maintained during the pandemic.​

At the meeting held with high-level participation from public and private sector representatives at the meeting, İhsan Akyol reported that he had attended the TGNA Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Commission on the agenda of the "Electricity Market Law and Some Laws On Amendments to the Law Proposal" and conveyed the views of the Council to the Commission.

Akyol made assessments in regards to developments on the agenda of the electricity market such as expropriation, GES tenders, YEKDEM incentive period extension.

Council Advisor Kemal Uslu informed the Council about “Development in the Electricity Market from January to September 2020.” Kemal Uslu pointed out that in the first nine months of 2020, revenue from dam plants decreased by 28% compared to last year due to 16% less water than the long-term average, and therefore 7,803 GWh less electricity was produced in hydraulic power plants than in the same period last year.

Murat Zekeriya Aydın, Director General of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, addressed the importance of Keban and Euphrates basin in both agricultural irrigation and electricity production for our country.  Murat Zekeriya Aydın, Keban and Euphrates basin in particular hydropower plants, water revenues and climatic conditions related to hydraulic power plant electricity production; noting that they are carefully evaluating climatic developments and predictions in coordination with DSI and Meteorology in order to run hydraulic power plants in the most efficient way.
