TOBB Turkey Agriculture Council convened under Council President Güngör Şarman at the TOBB Union Center. Attending the meeting in addition to the council members were Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry Food Control Vice General Director Ahmet Kavak and Food Control and Laboratories Department Head Dr. Neslihan Alper.

Food Control and Laboratories Department Head Dr. Neslihan Alper provided information regarding food laboratories. Alper stated that all applications regarding laboratory inspections, administrative sanctions, analysis pricing et al. for public and private institutions are based on related legislation.

- Food laboratories

Reporting that the number of public laboratories has reached 43, Alper said that there are 71 active private food control laboratories. Food Control and Laboratories Department Head Dr. Neslihan Alper stated that private laboratories have to undertake a very detailed effort in order to attain this capacity. Alper emphasized that food safety and food security are often confused with each other.

- Active food inspection

Stating that the only authority in food reliability in Turkey is the Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry, Alper stated that the Ministry’s 2010-2014 strategic plan is the sustainable utilization of agricultural and ecological resources, raising the quality of living in rural areas and ensuring that quality agricultural products are accessible.

Alper stated that, throughout the country, service is provided with the “from the farm to the table” understanding and that active and adequate food inspections are present.
