Label warning to food producers

Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry authorities warned food producers to refrain from using incorrect or difficult to understand labeling in food products. TOBB Turkey Food Industry Council and TOBB Turkey Beverage Industry Council convened at the TOBB Union Center in Ankara under Council Presidents Feyhan Yaşar and Necdet Buzbaş. Also attending the meeting was TOBB Turkey Agriculture Council President Güngör Şarman.​

During the meeting wherein the common problems affecting the sectors and suggestions for solutions thereof were discussed, Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry Food Control Deputy General Director Ahmet Kavak and Food Establishments and Codex Department Director Selman Ayaz were also present.

- HACCP training for food personnel

Ayaz stated that all food establishments are required by law to provide their personnel HACCP training which aims to provide widespread hygiene standards.

- Label regulation

Providing information regarding the Turkish Food Codex Labeling Regulation, Selman Ayaz emphasized that it is very important to make food labels not misleading, easy to read and understandable. Stating that the regulations which govern labels also affect the promotion and advertisement of the food talked about the compulsory information to be present on the label such as, sugar, flavoring, plant sterol and various allergenic ingredients.

- 1.5 year grace period

Ayaz stated that there will be a 1.5 year grace period for producers to comply with the new regulations.
