This week on the “Sector Councils” program moderated by Prof. Dr. Kerem Alkin and Ali Çağatay on Bloomberg HT, the problems of the Fairs Sector were assessed. Attending the program were TOBB Turkey Fairs Council President Serdar Yalçın, TOBB Turkey Fairs Council Vice Presidents Murat Dermirtaş and Güven Cantürk as well as the TOBB Turkey Fairs Council Council Member Bekir Çakıcı.

TOBB Turkey Fairs Council President Serdar Yalçın briefly talked about the history of world fairs. Going on to say that Turkey has only recently started participating in the fairs sector, Yalçın stated that Turkey has become a role model, a most prolific country for fairs in recent years.

- Demirtaş: We need new fair grounds

TOBB Turkey Fairs Council Vice President Murat Demirtaş drew attention to the fact that fairs were not seen as part of industry until recently and that they have undergone a critical time of change, undertaking a complete overhaul of standards in the sector.

Stating that with the growth of fairs the regions and cities which harbor them have gained importance, Demirtaş said that with the growth of the industry, their need for new fair grounds has become apparent.

- Cantürk: We are using the full benefits of technology

TOBB Turkey Fairs Council Vice President Güven Cantürk emphasized that the center for fairs in Turkey is İstanbul and that the issues afflicting İstanbul must be resolved first.

Emphasizing the importance of the domestic market in fairs, Cantürk also drew attention to the lack of the full usage of technology in regards to technology and stressed that there would be massive facilitation if this was amended.

- Çakıcı: Turkey will get its share soon

TOBB Turkey Fairs Council Member Bekir Çakıcı said, in reference to the strategically fortuitous location of Turkey, “I believe that Turkey will receive its share of the cake soon.”

Stating that the mentality which posits that every city must have a car, textile and fruit fair, must be abandoned, Çakıcı said that dividing fairs of the same type up would be weakening the sector and that there should be a singular fair of each type.
