Durable consumer goods struggling in the domestic market

TOBB Turkey Durable Consumer Goods Council convened under Council President Şirzat Subaşı at the TOBB İstanbul Service Building to assess the sector’s performance in the first six months of the year.​

Stating that the first six months have been very difficult for the sector, Council President Subaşı reported that despite the slow start, they are hopeful that the recovery for the sector which has been underway will continue on through to the end of the year.

- New law concerning consumer protection

Attending the meeting, the Customs and Commerce Ministry Consumer Protection and Market Management General Directorate Head Yakup Güzel stated that the new bill is being discussed in various parliament commissions, with the views and suggestions of NGOs being taken into account in the process and that they expect it to be passed with the start of the new legislative term. Changes to the bill were discussed afterwards.

It was emphasized that the consumer arbitration committee’s enforcement limit has been increase to 3,000 TL in provincial centers while precautions to facilitate their protection of consumer rights are also being taken. Similarly, product security inspections are being undertaken by the Science, Industry and Technology Ministry.
