TOBB will issue Occupational Proficiency Certificates to combat work accidents

In accordance with the work underway by the Ministry of Labor, 40 fields of occupation will require occupational proficiency certificates. This practice will enter into effect on May 25th, 2016. The system will be implemented for hazardous occupations without bringing additional costs to employers and employees. All examination costs will be compensated by the government.​

Established through the efforts of TOBB, MEYBEM has also acquired authorization for examination and certification. TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the goal is to minimize occupational mishaps and increase the qualifications of employees.

Founded by TOBB to provide examination and certification services for occupational proficiency in the fields of hazardous and very hazardous occupations, Occupational Proficiency and Examination Centers (MEYBEM) have received authorization from the Occupational Proficiency Council (MYK) to provide said services in 12 fields of occupation.

In a statement regarding the matter, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu reported that the UMEM Ability’10 Project has been providing occupational training to those without a vocation since 2010. He stated that following the success of this project they’ve also taken on a new initiative in regards to occupational proficiency. Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We’ve founded MEYBEM Occupational Proficiency and Examination Centers. MEYBEM provides examination and certification services for occupational proficiency in 12 fields of hazardous and very hazardous occupations including construction, elevators and metals. Accredited by TÜRKAK on November 5th, MEYBEM has received authorization for examination and certification from the Occupational Proficiency Council December 28th, 2015.”

-40 fields of occupation will require occupational proficiency certificates

Stating that they are aiming to provide certification services on all fields of occupation which has mandatory certification for the business community, Hisarcıklıoğlu reported that 40 fields of occupation will require occupational proficiency certificates initially. Hisarcıklıoğlu reported that the 1 year transitional period will be over on May 25th, 2016, and that afterwards individuals without occupational proficiency certificates will not be able to work in said fields.

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “All examination costs will be compensated by the government. The system will be implemented for hazardous occupations without bringing additional costs to employers and employees. We are aiming to provide certification services on all fields of occupation which has mandatory certification for the business community. The goal is to minimize occupational mishaps and increase the qualifications of employees. We will be promoting the system extensively in the months to come and raise awareness to it via our chambers and exchanges in 81 provinces.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu reported that the first examination was conducted to certify construction scaffolding workers.

- How to apply to MEYBEM

Applications will be made to MEYBEM located in TOBB’s Ankara Twin Towers via www.meybem.com.tr, individually or as an institution. MEYBEM Co. Inc. will provide examination and certification in the following fields: Elevator Maintenance and Repair Level 3, Elevator Maintenance and Repair Level 4, Wood Mold Level 3, Barbender Level 3, Concrete Worker Level 3, Waller Level 3, Scaffolding Setup Personnel Level 3, Plasterer Level 3, CNC Programmer Level 4, CNC Programmer Level 5, Metal Sheet Worker Level 3, Metal Sheet Worker Level 4.
