Turkey-EU JCC Delegation Co-Chair and TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s reception, stated that NGOs would play a more active role against misinformation abroad as well as speculative news about the attempted coup and the events following it.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received representatives of the member organizations of the Turkey – EU Joint Consultative Committee following his meeting with the leaders of the political parties and presiding over the Ministers’ Meeting.

Co-Chair of the Turkey-EU JCC Delegation and TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the Turkish people have overcome a great crisis.

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We, the profession organizations, syndicates and confederations which make up the Turkish wing of the Turkey-EU JCC, have stood against the coup attempt along with the Turkish nation from the very start, urging both our nation and members to preserve democracy.

As the largest organizations of civil society, we’ve stood by our government and TGNA since that day. We attended the general session of the TGNA on July 16th.

Afterwards, we met with the Speaker of the National Assembly and the representatives of the political parties along with the representatives of 538 NGOs.

We’ve visited the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in order to extend our condolences and to discuss what needs to be done in this as well as our duty as the civil society.

The Turkish Republic has faced one of the greatest threats to its existence in history. We are living in extraordinary times.

We stand with the state throughout this process. We will undertake whatever duty falls to us.”

- Speculative news and misinformation

Stating that there is a great amount of misinformation abroad, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “There are a lot of speculative articles regarding the coup attempt, the current situation and the Turkish economy.  We will take on a more active role in this regard as NGOs.

We had already gotten in contact with our foreign counterparts. We clearly relayed the events taking place in Turkey, reminding them of the strength of the Turkish democracy and economy. We will continue to work to this end and contributing to the growing strength of our country.”

Taking part in the Turkey-EU JCC delegation visiting President Erdoğan were TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, TESK Chair Bendevi Palandöken, Türk-İş Chair Ergün Atalay, TZOB Chair Şemsi Bayraktar, Memur-Sen Chair Ali Yalçın, Kamu-Sen Chair İsmail Koncuk, Hak-İş Chair Mahmut Arslan and TİSK Chair Yağız Eyüpoğlu.
