The reforms implemented last year within the framework of The Ease of Doing Business, led by Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, have brought Turkey to the top ranks of the Doing Business 2020 report. Single window application in company establishment, electronic transfer of land registry processes, improving the quality of land registries and lowering the fee, VAT exemption on investment goods, reduction of foreign trade costs reforms have allowed Turkey to rise to the top.

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu expressing that they are happy to see the results of the reforms coordinated with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, said, “I would like to thank President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who took the reform efforts under his wing and supported us, Vice President Fuat Oktay, the Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak, the Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance Bülent Aksu, all relevant ministries and all contributing NGOs. We, as TOBB, are acting the secretariat of the private sector wing, therefore we are also greatly proud of this.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu stressed that the results can be a strong reference point for foreign investors, “We're very happy to have Turkey rise to rank 33 through the many reforms enacted whereas for many years we were ranked in the 60s and 70s. Reforms have been made in many areas with many still underway. This breakthrough in the economic conditions we are in is an indication that Turkey is making and will continue to make the reforms it needs to increase investments and employment.”

Stating that Turkey should not be satisfied with this result, Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We have shown the whole world how strong a will we have for reform. It's a great achievement to jump 27 places in two years, but it's not enough for us. We want to see our country where it deserves to be at the top of the rankings and we are working for it. We're proceeding in a planned, programmed manner. We have already worked on the reforms that we will carry out next year.”

Stating that the coordination will be carried out by Vice President Fuat Oktay this year, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “The fact that our Vice President, Mr. Fuat Oktay, will personally carry out this process gives a meaningful message to both the private sector and foreign investors. Mr. Fuat Oktay is a statesman who brings the whole government to the service of its citizens with the e-government project and prioritizes the citizen. With the same approach, we will facilitate the work of our businesses together.”
