Speaking at the Access to Energy in Sub-Saharan Africa Conference held in Ä°stanbul as a part of G20 activities, Mete stated that Sub-Saharan Africa is in need of an extensive energy infrastructure.
Pointing out that Turkish businessmen are ready to take the initiative in building Sub-Saharan Africa’s infrastructure, Mete reported that only 37% of the people in the region are living in cities, that two thirds of the population has no access to electricity.
Stating that although Sub-Saharan Africa is rich in resources such as natural gas, petroleum and coal, the lack of infrastructure is the greatest obstacle in accessing energy, Mete reported that according to the International Energy Agency’s research, an investment of 30 billion USD is necessary in 2030 to address the global electricity demand, with 64% of this investment being made into Sub-Saharan Africa.
Mete stated that Turkish contractors have undertaken and very successfully completed infrastructure projects in over 100 countries, becoming the second largest construction power in the world. Mete stated that Turkish businessmen would be honored to contribute to the construction of Sub-Saharan Africa’s infrastructure.
