TOBB Turkey Chemicals Industry Council met in Ankara to assess the developments and troubles of the rapidly growing sector. The Council President Timur Erk stated that the market share of EU countries’ chemicals sectors has decreased from 32% to 25% and that the projected share for 2020 is 20%. Erk stated that in regards to these developments, Turkey’s market share in the chemicals imports of EU have fallen to 45% and that we should be looking to other regions for exports.​

 

- “We are among the sectors that trigger foreign trade deficit”

TOBB Turkey Chemicals Industry Council President Timur Erk stated in his assessment that the chemicals industry will reach 16 billion Dollars in exports by the end of the year but is still one of the sectors that trigger foreign trade deficit being investigated by the Economy Ministry.

- High technology investments incentivized

Stating that chemicals industries in countries are an indication of development, Erk said that producing import substitution and redirecting to high added value goods through R&D would provide a way out for the industrialists.

- Updated KKDF and ÖTV Applications”

Also a matter of discussion at the meeting was the effects of the KKDF and ÖTV applications on the sector. The increase to the ÖTV to prevent the smuggling of mineral oil #10 was discussed.

- Problems with local administration

AKSA Board Member Mustafa Yılmaz provided examples of problems in dealing with local administrations after ÇED results were acquired, at the permit and license stage; pointed out that these untoward situations are motivationally detrimental and damaging to the industrialists.
