The maritime sector is awaiting incentives

TOBB Turkey Maritime Council convened under Council President Erol Yücel with the attendance of the TOBB Board Vice President Halim Mete in TOBB’s Istanbul Service Building. The meeting wherein incentives were discussed government incentives to be granted to the sector, the survival of the ship building industry, the upkeep of shipyard with new commissions and the importance of the continuation of Turkish shipbuilding renowned internationally for its high quality.​

 

During the meeting, it was decided that the previously established “The Amelioration of the Investment and Business Environment – Problems”, “Emission Reduction – Energy Efficiency” and “Maritime Goals and Policies” sub-committees would continue their work while undergoing revision as per the suggestions from Council members.

- Revision work in the sector assessed

Discussing the Law #4922 Regarding Maritime Health and Property Protection, Council members expressed their concerns regarding high and numerous penalties; the double fining of ships under Turkish colors which were fined in international waters; the authority given to the coast guard to enact penalties.

Stating that items in the Law #2821 Regarding Syndicates include disruptive and bureaucratically problematic clauses, sector representatives urged that the matter be discussed again.
