11.12.2023 / Ankara

The Librarianship Idea Marathon, of which the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Creative Industries Council is a stakeholder, started with the speeches of Gökhan Yazgı, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, and Seyit Ardıç, TOBB Council Member.

Focusing on the library institution, the program brought together the field of librarianship and its teams. The Marathon brought together participants to uncover and support technology-based, innovative, inclusive and sustainable librarianship ideas. Teams participating in the marathon will present ideas that lead to the production of new services, products and solutions.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, TOBB Council Member Seyit Ardıç said that the Idea Marathon Project carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism aims to reveal and support technology-based, innovative, inclusive and sustainable librarianship ideas designed in accordance with the information needs of the 21st century.

Pointing out that creative industries offer new opportunities that can increase global competition with low investment costs, Ardıç said that in this sense, it is very important for public institutions to support this potential. Stating that the projects pioneered and supported by the state are very successful, especially in the TV series and cinema sectors, Seyit Ardıç said, “Türkiye has a high creative reserve. We have many qualified young people working individually in the field of digitalization. We should contribute to the economy by processing this potential better. We should focus on training and support programs, especially to become the leader of the content economy that spreads worldwide through digital communication channels. This Idea Marathon also serves this purpose. Ideas for the library sector will be transformed into concrete products within the framework of information technologies, digitalization, information needs and accessibility of disadvantaged groups and new approaches in traditional library services. We believe that this potential will be institutionalized and create significant added value. Today, we are together with our valuable entrepreneurs.”

As the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye, TOBB Women and Young Entrepreneurs Councils, which were established to use the entrepreneurial potential of our young population more efficiently and to trigger entrepreneurship, are working hard in 81 provinces and 160 districts. Ardıç said, “These Councils, which are the most comprehensive entrepreneurship network of our region with more than 15,000 members, seek solutions to sectoral and regional problems with the Idea Marathons and Acceleration Programs they organize. They reward successful entrepreneurs and bring them together with potential investors. On this occasion, I want you to know that we will follow all of our entrepreneur brothers and sisters who participated in today's Idea Marathon and we will provide the support we can. There is no loser in this competition, we will hopefully do useful work together with all our entrepreneurs who dare to participate here.”

- Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Gökhan Yazgı

Stating that they aim to develop new services and products by bringing together the world of innovation and entrepreneurship with the field of librarianship, Gökhan Yazgı, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, said in his speech here: “This competition has no losers. Because for us, all the ideas that will emerge here are very important, very valuable and will be guiding for us. The ideas that will emerge in this idea marathon will be a light for us to take our traditional understanding of librarianship one step higher. That layer in our society, which we call disadvantaged groups, is the target audience for us. It is very important for us that this target audience reaches the right information, reaches reliable information and reaches it in the easiest way.”

- Creative Industries Council Member Berat Kuzu

In his speech, Berat Kuzu, Council Member of the Creative Industries Council, pointed out that the ideathon project, which was organized jointly with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the creative industries, is of great importance for the concept of creative entrepreneurship.

Kuzu pointed out that this industry, which has a volume of billions of dollars, provides 1.5 million jobs and said, “The fact that our industry finds a bigger place in the entrepreneurship ecosystem will play an important role in the development of our industry, which produces high added value by producing with the power of ideas.”
