Olive Oil Sector Geographical Indications Stakeholder Meeting

The “Olive Oil Sector Geographical Indications Stakeholder Meeting,” organized as part of the “Project to Raise Awareness of Geographical Indications” carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, was held online with the participation of public institutions, universities, chambers and exchanges, and sector representatives.​

The opening speeches were delivered by Ahmet Turan Gürkan, Director of Agricultural Marketing at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and Dr. Hakan Kızıltepe, Director of Geographical Indications at TÜRKPATENT.

The meeting comprehensively addressed the current state of the olive oil sector, production and quality issues in geographically indicated products, marketing, foreign trade, and branding processes, as well as the geographical indication registration process with the EU.

As part of the program, Aslı Parmak, Legal Expert from the TOBB Real Sector R&D and Application Directorate, gave a presentation on the work of chambers and exchanges in the field of geographical indications. The presentation shared with participants information on producer organization, strengthening of control processes, field applications, and support activities for EU registration processes.

The meeting, which was completed interactively with a question-and-answer session, served as a productive platform for discussing opportunities for cooperation in strengthening the quality, traceability, and branding processes of geographical indication olive oils.
